چکیده

Progressive cyanosis often develops following Kawashima operation in patients with left atrial isomerism, interrupted inferior vena cava and hepatic veins draining to the atria. Knowledge on the timing and extend of resolution following hepatic venous redirection is sparse. A girl developed progressing cyanosis following Kawashima operation at the age of ten months. Arterial oxygen saturations at rest dropped to 60-65%. Surgical redirection of hepatic veins into the cavopulmonary circulation at the age of three years had no immediate effect. However, arterial oxygen saturations increased gradually over nine months to 90-93% and 95-100% after three years.

Outcomes following the Kawashima procedure for single-ventricle palliation in left atrial isomerism.

OBJECTIVES Patients with left atrial isomerism and interrupted inferior vena cava palliated with a superior cavopulmonary connection or Kawashima procedure (KP) have a high incidence of developing pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. The necessity for hepatic vein redirection (HVR) and its timing remains a controversy. We aimed to assess the clinical outcome of patients with left atrial isome...

Late Presentation of Persistent Left Superior Caval Vein in a Univentricular Heart with Successful Transcutaneous Occlusion Using Cera Lifetech Atrial Septal Occluder

We present a case of persistent left superior caval vein in a univentricular heart presenting with progressive and disabling cyanosis in a 35-year-old man eighteen years after his Kawashima operation. The vein was successfully occluded using an atrial septal occluder with significant improvement of symptoms and oxygen saturation.

[Severe cyanosis after total cavopulmonary connection, corrected by surgical ligation of the suprahepatic veins].

We describe a patient with a diagnosis of heterotaxia and independent drainage of the suprahepatic veins into the venous atrium who underwent total extracardiac cavopulmonary connection in which hepatic vein drainage remained directly into the atrium. In the immediate postoperative period she showed increasing cyanosis that suggested substantial right-to-left shunt. Surgical ligation of the sup...

Development of unilateral pulmonary arteriovenous malformations due to unequal distribution of hepatic venous flow.

Afemale child with visceral heterotaxy (presumed left isomerism), interrupted inferior vena cava with azygos continuation to the superior vena cava, and double-outlet right ventricle underwent a total cavopulmonary anastomosis (end-to-side anastomosis of the superior vena cava to the right pulmonary artery) in infancy. Completion of Fontan circulation was undertaken at 3 years of age with const...

Rare venous connection causing severe hypoxia after Fontan operation.

We describe a rare case of cyanosis following the Fontan operation with right-to-left shunting at the venous level, that is, an azygos venous to pulmonary venous connection. Few cases with partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection to azygos vein have been reported; however, there have been no reports describing the connection from azygos vein to pulmonary vein, which results in desaturation...
